LOEWE Project KEPLER

KEPLER – Continuous production of a plastic-free leather alternative based on residual materials

The aim of this project is to produce the vegan leather alternative LOVR® in a continuous process on a pilot scale.

LOVR®, an innovation of revoltech GmbH is made from agricultural residues and contains neither petroleum products nor harmful chemicals. LOVR® is also biodegradable, recyclable and climate neutral.

The new textile is a single-layer material that requires neither a substrate nor a coating, offering several customer benefits in terms of variability and processability. Most importantly, this structure enables the use of existing equipment and processes optimized for cost and energy efficiency by means of technology transfer.

Against the background that sustainable products based on cellulose are also gaining in scientific importance, KEPLER holds great potential for the TU Darmstadt. For the joint partner PMV, the project offers the opportunity to expand the focus of paper technology to related biomaterials or processes and thus to take on a pioneering role.
